About Long John

He's a California native & radio DJ with many years experince & does TUBBY TUNES Radio Show, a radio show name he adopted in 1989.

For Long John, it started around 1956 or so, when he was 5 years old and he had a radio with tubes that glowed in the dark.

Mostly he listened to Rock & Roll radio, KEWB and KYA in the San Francisco Bay Area. he was hooked on it. he used to play the radio (it was a large floor console radio in those days) real loud when Bill Haley, Elvis, Everly Bros, Coasters, or Johnny Otis came on. Later, his first transister radio was also tuned to these same rock stations.

He fell in love with radio, and was thrilled when a cousin gave him her 45 rpm record collection around 1960, and it wasn't long before he was spinning tunes at home, and later at some of the school dances...

He started to hang out at some of the radio stations in the SF Bay Area at an early age out of curiosity; watching, learning, and absorbing styles & techniques...he watched every move of some of the (now recognised) radio DJ legends at KMPX & KSAN...

And in 1977 it was his turn, and he went on the air for the 1st time high in the hills above the San Francisco Bay Area at KALX.

He worked on and off in radio, TV, News, and high-tech electronics, in the years since. Often his job has been to train other radio DJ's and TV Master Control operators. He's still involved with radio, television along with video & audio editing...

As the years have passed he's migrated further away from the urban hustle & bustle, yet is still broadcasting...

In 2014  he celebrated 37 years of on the air broadcasting, and he still loves doing it...!
